To All PSAC-YEU Local Y011 Yukon University Employees Union members:
A Clear Strike Mandate for the Team
The Employer Refuses to Budge
After obtaining an overwhelming strike mandate, your bargaining team went to the table to secure a better deal for YukonU members. We have been clear that we are willing to be reasonable and flexible but that that Employer must move from their position that was overwhelmingly rejected by members during our strike votes.
We went to the table during conciliation and revised our wage proposal to be broadly in line with other settlements that we’ve seen in the Territory. However, the Employer has not budged an inch on their wage offer. Rather than focus on trying to get a fair deal with us, they have only worked on contingency plans for labour action. We have communicated to them that we are available at any time to return to the table to negotiate, but only if they have an improved offer for us. If we anticipate a return to the table, we will let all members know.
As most of you have seen, the Employer has withdrawn its participation in the Arctic Winter Games. Your bargaining team will continue to discuss timing for potential strike action that provides us with the best position for success and will communicate this widely with members.
We are anticipating holding a membership meeting next week. We will provide notice of this meeting as soon as we have secured a date and location.
What are we seeking?
As a reminder, we firmly believe that all PSAC members deserve
- Fair wages that reflect that we have fallen behind other employers in the Territory, behind the Teachers’ settlement and behind the cost of living
- Improved benefits and working conditions.
Members have clearly indicated that they want change. We are ready to show we’re united and ready to fight for a better deal.
Let’s stand together for a fairer YukonU!
