Yukon University Bargaining Update #3

To All PSAC-YEU Local Y011 Yukon University Employees Union members:

Your bargaining team spent another two days with the employer, continuing the process of negotiations.  We made some significant progress on non-monetary issues.  We made substantial gains on workload for non-faculty, and advanced members’ interests related to rank and title for faculty.

On the other hand, we were disappointed that the employer did not come to the table with any response on our monetary issues.  Resolving monetary issues will be critical to getting a deal done. As a reminder, we have fallen behind Yukon government settlements and this needs to be addressed.  Our proposal remains for a 3-year deal with:

  • A 14% increase in year 1 to have our real wages catch up
  • Increases that match Yukon inflation in years 2 and 3, with a minimum increase of 3% and a maximum of 5%
  • Increasing sessional stipends

We expect to get a response from the employer next time we meet.  We have scheduled our next meeting for mid-June, and we will update everyone after that next set of negotiations.

Please continue to stay informed and feel free to talk with any team member if you have questions.
