To All PSAC-YEU Local Y011 Yukon University Employees Union members:
Your bargaining team spent another three days with the employer, continuing the process of negotiations. We have agreed on a few items to improve your working conditions and have just begun to discuss monetary issues.
We made a full wage proposal, which we believe is fair and would provide us with catch-up. We have fallen behind Yukon government settlements and this needs to be addressed. Inflation has been high and our real wages have fallen behind by 12% since 2021. We are also targeting substantial wage increases, having seen the recent Yukon Association of Education Professionals agreement. Our proposal is for a 3-year deal with:
- A 14% increase in year 1 to have our real wages catch up
- Increases that matches Yukon inflation in years 2 and 3, with a minimum increase of 3% and a maximum of 5%.
- Increasing sessional stipends
We also worked on language and put forward formal proposals to address:
- Addressing mounting workload concerns for non-faculty
- Improving the pension plan
- Modifying the rank and title system to make it more transparent and fair, as well as introducing a new teaching stream
We expect to hear back from the employer at our next set of meetings, which will be in early April.
Please continue to stay informed and feel free to talk with any team member if you have questions.
