A Message from the REVP North
|
{{ FirstName | default: ‘Friend’ }}, I am so proud of our fellow union members across the North.
Every day, I hear from workers who are passionate about making positive change. Through challenging times, I’ve seen such resilience and so many compelling expressions of solidarity in the past month.
|
In the Yukon, members mobilized and kept the pressure on their employer to reach a fair deal.
In the NWT, members braved the cold and rallied for protecting public service jobs in the North.
In Nunavut, we’ve seen tremendous gains at the bargaining table and members showing employers in all the territories the strength of workers’ collective power.
Around the country, workers are mobilizing against the federal government’s sweeping cuts to the services we all rely on. I witnessed the force of our movement at the Save Public Health Care Rally in Ottawa last month, where union members and activists demanded public services be built up rather than torn down.
We know that here in the North, where even the smallest cuts go deep, these decisions disproportionately affect communities where services are already stretched to the breaking point, and resources are limited.
That’s why your Union – in workplaces, committees, negotiations, campaigns, and advocacy – is keeping the pressure on all orders of government to find ways to reduce costs without placing jobs and services at risk.
In solidarity,
Josée-Anne Spirito Regional Executive Vice-President

Strong collective agreements mean strong public services
|
Congratulations to PSAC-NEU members working at the Iqaluit Housing Authority for ratifying their new three-year collective agreement earlier this year.
The previous round of bargaining with IHA in 2023 saw members hold the line on strike for 137 days before the Employer agreed to a deal that showed respect for these workers. Members entered this round united, visible, and determined to send a clear message that they were ready to fight for what they deserve.
|
They showed up to rally in solidarity with their bargaining team when it mattered, and demanded that their Employer come to the table with a fair deal.
In addition to delivering the highest economic gains negotiated by a Nunavut housing authority, the agreement includes increases to allowances, standby pay, and language bonuses; paid leave for survivors of domestic violence; and new paid days for traditional and cultural pursuits, with numerous other improvements and no concessions.
|
These members work hard so that families have safe, stable housing in one of Canada’s most challenging environments. On the picket line and at the bargaining table, they’ve shown that when workers fight together, we win together – not just for ourselves, but for the families and communities who rely on the services we deliver.

Allyship in the Workplace Speakers Series

The Yukon Access Committee’s Second Annual Allyship in the Workplace Speakers Series will continue with an ‘Inclusivity’ keynote featuring lawyer and advocate Lindsey Mazza.
Allyship is more than a buzzword — it’s a daily practice. In this engaging keynote, Lindsey Mazza will share her personal journey alongside her expertise in law and inclusive leadership to show how workplaces can turn intention into impact. Participants will gain concrete, actionable tools to confidently support disability inclusion and drive meaningful cultural change.

The 10th North Regional Triennial Convention of the Public Service Alliance of Canada will be held at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon – beginning Friday, May 29 and concluding Sunday, May 31, 2026 – under the theme, Uniting Workers’ Voices for a Stronger North.
More than 60 resolutions were submitted by Area Councils, Locals, and Committees in this Convention cycle with members’ ideas for driving progress in our workplaces, our union, and the labour movement. In the coming weeks, members of Pre-Convention Committees will be invited to review and prioritize these resolutions for consideration by Convention delegates.
