Kikitak Housing Association Bargaining Update: Tentative Agreement Reached

Your Bargaining Team is pleased to announce that a tentative deal has been reached for Kikitak Housing Association workers.

Important Gains:

  • Previously, members had only 2 days of unpaid hunting, fishing and harvesting days. If ratified, members will have access to 5 paid days. In addition, these 5 paid days can be used for other traditional cultural pursuits. Up to 3 employees will be permitted to use this leave on very short notice to hunt any traditional migratory animal (char, caribou, etc).
  • The boot allowance was $275.00 for 2 years and has now increased to $400 for 2 years. In addition, the Employer will cover shipping costs. The Employer is now also required to replace boots if they wear out before the 2-year period.
  • There were minor increases to standby pay that will now be paid weekly.
  • When the office is closed due to inclement weather, employees will not be called back in on the same day if the weather improves.

Other:

  • Retroactive pay for all current employees and all past employees who were employed >3 months.
  • Employer will indicate in the Memorandum of Settlement that they are aware of the practice of closing for half a day on Christmas Eve/New Year’s Eve and have no intention of changing this practice
  • A statement of principles recognizing IQ principles and a land acknowledgement is now included after the cover page.

General Economic Increases:

  • 5% on ratification
  • Oct 1, 2024  – 2.5%
  • Oct 1, 2025 – 2.5%
  • Oct 1, 2026 -2.5%
  • Oct 1, 2027 – 2.5%
