Negotiations with the Employer for a new collective agreement started on the week of October 20-24, 2025. Negotiations continued on November 17 and 19, 2025 virtually. Even though we noticed a positive difference in terms of the tone at the table from last round, we were unable to reach an agreement.
Some progress was made as the parties were able to negotiate improvement related to standby, language bonus, family abuse leave, professional development and others.
However, we haven’t been able to reach agreement on issues such as wages and allowances that are extremely important for our members. Here are some of the most important issues in dispute:
- Allowances: The Union is seeking significant increases to the various allowances (Settlement, Housing, Utilities, VTAs, etc.). Many of these allowances have not been increased in many years and several rounds of negotiations, and not all members are entitled to all allowances.
- Economic increases parity with the GN: The Union is seeking parity in terms of economic increases with the GN as last round. Enough of having substandard wage proposals, if we don’t want to increase the wage gap and we want to maintain some of the achievements, we need parity with the GN in terms of economic increases.
- Removal of concessions: The employer has currently on the table proposals significant concessions like for example, to expand from 10 to 15 days the minimum days that an employee has to work in a month to be able to access vacation leave, and similar restrictions to access special leave, sick leave, the different allowances and even the protective equipment allowance. No collective agreement in Nunavut has these restrictions as a requirement to access various benefits in the collective agreement and it is a regression in terms of members’ rights.
The Bargaining Team will continue to fight against concessions and in general, to come back to you with a fair and improved tentative agreement.
The parties will meet on December 2 and 3, 2025. We will keep you posted at every stage of this process.
Please continue to support your bargaining team!
We are looking forward to meeting you at the membership meeting and mobilizing together.
Your bargaining team: Nicky, Elwin, Said (PSAC Research Officer) and Laneydi Martinez Alfonso (PSAC Negotiator).
