The Public Service Alliance of Canada North is happy to welcome the members of the YWCA Sutherland House into the union.
The Sutherland House is an eight-bed women’s shelter offering services to women in Fort Smith and from across the Northwest Territories who are fleeing violence.
Sutherland House is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to offer a safe setting for women and their children. Their staff also offer community outreach and operate a crisis line 24/7.
“The work being done at Sutherland House is so important to the community, and it’s a great honour to welcome the staff into the Public Service Alliance of Canada North,” said Jack Bourassa, REVP North for the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
Approximately 10 employees at Sutherland House will join PSAC North and the Union of Northern Workers and will work to elect their bargaining team in the coming months.
