Course Description:

Introduction to Local Officer Training for Members Residing in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut

This two-day course is an introductory level course for new or active Local Officers who need to know how to run a Local. Sessions cover the role of the Local Executive; Local administration, including by-laws and budgets; effective communications and Local meetings; and how the Local can access the wider resources of the PSAC. A major theme throughout the course is the organizing model of unionism and how to put it into practice so as to build a strong union presence at the workplace.

PSAC will pay for travel, accommodation, loss of salary and benefits (where applicable). In addition, participants residing in Cambridge Bay are entitled to claim $50.00 dollars per day to offset the cost of transportation and lunch. Those from outside the community are entitled to a per diem while in travel status.

PSAC is committed to ensuring that the accessibility requirements of our members are respected. Please indicate your needs and provide any necessary explanation that will assist us in meeting them.

Preference will be given to those acting in Local Officers positions. Remaining seats will open to other members with an interest in becoming a Local Officer should space be available.

The course will be limited to 20 participants. Please register as soon as possible to ensure that travel and accommodation arrangements can be made if required. PSAC North cannot guarantee that all applicants will be able to attend. This will depend on the availability of flights and accommodations if travelling from another community.

Visit the PSAC North Events page to learn about more ways you can get involved with your Union.
