We are pleased to inform members that the 2024 PSAC North Regional Health & Safety Members Conference will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, and Sunday, April 21, 2024, in the North Star Building Training Rooms, Yellowknife, NT. This conference is a fully funded event for participants and is open to all PSAC North members in good standing.

Information about travel and loss of salary will be available as part of the full participant’s package which you will receive on confirmation of registration.

Components, Locals, Area Councils and Committees are encouraged to personally inform PSAC Health and Safety members in your area to ensure they are made aware of this Conference, via email and workplace union bulletin boards. In workplaces where members continue to work from home, please share with your contacts.

Conference Objectives

The objective of this conference is to create a forum for Health and Safety activists to reflect upon, discuss and take action on current health and safety issues. These discussions will include, assuring our voices are heard in our workplace and in our unions as Health and Safety Representatives, mental health in the workplace and Health and Safety fundamentals.

Conference Information

The conference will begin Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 9am and adjourn at 5pm.

The Conference will continue on the morning of Sunday April 21, 2024, at 9am and adjourn at 5pm

Participants that reside within 80 kilometers of the venue:

  • Will be entitled to claim loss of salary for Saturday April 20/24 & Sunday April 21/24 (if normally scheduled to work)
  • If not working, will also be entitled to claim a $50 per day allowance (or actual cost if higher) to cover the cost of travel (including parking) and meals

Participants that reside more than 80 kilometers from the venue will be considered as in travel status which means the following costs will be covered:

  • Will be entitled to salary for Friday, April 19/24 to Monday, April 22/24 (if normally scheduled to work) and dependent on travel schedule; A shift schedule may be requested.
  • Travel costs include ground transportation.
  • Meal and incidental allowances (except those provided) as per the PSAC Travel Policy.
  • Hotel accommodation costs (room & taxes) at the Explorer Hotel.
  • Hotel parking.

Accommodation for disabilities

The PSAC Accommodation Policy strives to ensure that PSAC events are barrier-free for members with disabilities. Once selected as a participant, members will be asked to specify their accommodation needs to facilitate their participation at the PSAC Health and Safety Conference – North Region.

Family care

The objective of the PSAC Family Care Policy is to remove one of the barriers which prevents participants from attending Union activities and which provides for the reimbursement of family care expenses.

PSAC policies: anti-harassment and scent-free environments

During the conference, and at all events associated with the conference, the PSAC Anti-Harassment Policy and the Smoke-free Environment and Scent-free Environment Policy will be in effect. Please refrain from using scented products of any type.

If you are selected as a participant in this conference, you will be advised by email and/or telephone. Please ensure you provide us with your phone number and email that you will have access to during the months of March and April 2024.

We look forward to having our Health & Safety members in the PSAC North Region gather to
strengthen the PSAC Health & Safety program. We see this as an opportunity for our members to continue the important work of maintaining and improving activism of the Union in the struggle to improve the working conditions of all PSAC members.
