PSAC Yellowknife RO, 201-4910 53 St, Yellowknife, NT X1A 1V2
We are committed to continuing to work with Home Base Yellowknife to negotiate a collective agreement that meets all employee needs and ensures a quality workplace.
Some questions and next steps of your unionizing process can be found here:
How will the union benefit me?
Unionizing gives all employees the right to collectively bargain over their working conditions thus ensuring safe workplaces, workers’ rights and representation during disciplinary meetings. Union membership also means enhanced non-wage benefits, equal rights and greater respect, and being part of a greater movement. Unions actually create a more harmonious work environment, as members are encouraged to discuss issues and conflicts in order to resolve these. Unions also lead to less favouritism and increased economic security.
What is a collective agreement?
A collective agreement is a contract negotiated between the union and your employer. This contract sets out guidelines and policies related to the workplace such as pay and wages, hours of work, discrimination, harassment and workplace violence, and vacation and sick leave. What is a bargaining team?
Collective bargaining is how the union and management come up with terms and conditions of your employment. To represent your needs and interests, you will elect members of your team to represent you at the negotiation table.
What are the next steps?
UNW/PSAC will hold an information session on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at PSAC Yellowknife Regional Office, to discuss the bargaining process and answer any questions you may have. At this time, you will elect your bargaining team representatives. Coffee, tea, and refreshments will be provided.
How can I get involved in my union?
There are many resources at the disposal of PSAC members to keep informed and get involved.
Some of these include the PSAC website and PSAC social media. Local union meetings, PSAC publications, members of regional councils, and chairs of committees are all excellent sources of information to increase involvement. Participation in education programs and rallies are also opportunities available to help initiate meaningful change.
If you are interested in learning more please consider registering for the Talking Union Basics course to be offered in the near future. This course is intended to provide more detailed information related to PSAC.
