On December 6, communities across Canada held vigils and events. It has been 30 years since the tragic mass shooting at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal (December 6, 1989) that saw the promising lives of 14 young women cut violently short. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
PSAC North regional women’s committees co-sponsored and/or participated at events and vigils in Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit. Commemorating December 6 by holding vigils and events continues to be an opportunity to speak out against all forms of violence against women. Following the event in Iqaluit, PSAC North Nunavut Regional Women’s Committee members and volunteers met to pack purses with toiletries and other items and donated them to the women’s shelter.
