Town of Hay River Bargaining Update: Tentative Agreement Reached!

The bargaining committee for PSAC/UNW members at the Town of Hay River is pleased to announce that after multiple rounds of bargaining, on June 25th, 2025, a tentative agreement was reached with the Employer.

The tentative agreement is a 3-year agreement, expiring on December 31st, 2027.  In recognition of the work you do, your bargaining committee was able to secure wage increases that meet or exceed wage gains at other municipalities within the Northwest Territories.

If ratified, wage increases will be as follows, retroactive to January 1st, 2025:

January 1, 2025 – 4.00%

January 1, 2026 – 2.75%

January 1, 2027 – 2.75%

In addition, your bargaining committee is pleased to announce the following additional improvements:

  • an increased cap of 60 hours when banking overtime as time off
  • reimbursement of medical practitioner fees when the Employer requires a sick note
  • increases to footwear allowances and, the creation of a swimwear allowance for casual pool employees
  • a land acknowledgement statement in Article 1 of the Collective Agreement
  • the requirement for the Employer to provide a survey of different benefit plan providers to the Labour Management Relations Commitee and the Union within 18 months, with the goal of finding more cost-effective options for employees without a reduction in benefits

Ratification meetings will be held at multiple times on July 3rd, 2025, in Hay River. Ratification kits containing all changes within the tentative agreement will be provided at the meeting prior to the ratification vote. Members of the Union bargaining committee will be present to answer any questions you may have prior to voting. Please ensure your emails with PSAC are up to date in order to receive further updates on these meetings.

In solidarity,

Your PSAC/UNW bargaining committee
