Hello everyone,
Your bargaining team held a series of negotiation meetings with the Employer team last week and this week in Whitehorse.
This week, the Employer finally tabled an offer addressing all outstanding issues, along with a revised monetary offer. Yesterday afternoon, your bargaining team rejected that offer.
While there are more items that are unresolved, the key issues are as follows:
- Monetary items – the wage offer was inadequate and fell short of inflation.
- Severance – the Employer demanded that severance pay cease accumulating on December 31, 2026.
- Health Authority – insufficient assurances regarding job and benefit protections for members should the government choose to resurrect implementation of Shäw Kwä’ą.
Our collective agreement expired on December 31, 2024. Members have now been without a contract for more than 17 months. Throughout this period, the bargaining team has continued to negotiate in good faith on behalf of the membership. After months of bargaining, the Employer has still not brought forward an offer that reflects the value of members’ work.
What’s next?
- Membership meetings: We are booking in-person membership meetings to provide you with more detailed updates, and we are booking meeting times and locations that are intended to be scheduled before the end of June.
- Filing for Conciliation: The Union team will be applying to the Yukon Public Service Labour Relations Board for the assistance of a conciliator.
- Stay Tuned: Watch your email over the coming weeks for additional details on these bargaining issues, as well as more information on the membership meetings.
Your bargaining team remains committed to securing a fair agreement that respects your work and protects your rights.
In solidarity, your bargaining team,
Amie Angel, Laurel Cole, Rosa Barraco, Tammi Johnson, Ian MacDonald, Erik Miller, Matt Murphy, Ted Klassen & Erna Post
