Whitehorse Regional Pride Committe Short Story Winners Selected

November 7, 2008

In honour of Anti-Homophobia Week, the Whitehorse Regional Pride Committee sponsors a Short Story Writing Contest. This year's theme was Homosexuality is Not a Sickness.

PSAC Regional Pride Committee

The Whitehorse Regional Pride Committee was founded in 2004 and is chartered by the PSAC in accordance with the constitution of the PSAC.  The mandate of the committee is to improve working and living conditions, and better the rights of GLBT PSAC members.  The goal of the committee is societal acceptance, not tolerance.

The committee works with other union, community, and GLBT groups to raise awarenes of issues through various projects and events.

The committee is open to all PSAC members who identify as GLBT and their allies.  For more information on the committee, or to be added to the e-mail list, contact the Whitehorse PSAC office at 667-2331

Yukon Anti-Homophobia Day Contest Results

The results are in from the Anti-Homophobia Day writing contest.

1st Place - $500.00 - Barry "Jack" Jenkins of Whitehorse, Malcolm's Choice

2nd Place - $300.00 - Lisa Vollans of Whitehorse, Some Kind of Ellen Joke

3rd Place - $150.00 - Joann Vriend of Dawson City, Decisions, Decisions

Thanks to all of the participants, all of the stories were great. 

And, thanks to the panel of judges: Al Pope, Marcelle Dube and Andrew Richardson.

Anti-homophobia Day 2007 - Writing competition

Call for Submissions – Short Story Contest

In recognition of Anti-homophobia day the PSAC Whitehorse Regional Pride Committee is running a short story writing contest.  Stories are to be original compositions based on the subject “Sexual Orientation is not a choice”, 500-1200 words in length.  Entries must be received at the PSAC office, 100-2285-2nd Avenue Whitehorse, by noon April 25th, 2007.

 

Stories will be judged by an independent panel.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st place($500.00), 2nd place($300.00) and 3rd place($150.00).  Winning entry to be published in a local paper and on the PSAC North website.

National Day Against Homophobia 2006

In Whitehorse, we celebrated on May 17th at the Elijah Smith Building. Due to the cold and windy conditions, we had a small but enthusiastic audience this year.
