Domestic violence impacts work life. In Canada, over a third of people have experienced violence at the hands of an intimate partner or ex-partner. The trauma and stress that victims experience frequently affects a worker’s ability to do their job.

The National Aboriginal Peoples Circle came together for their annual meeting to discuss some of the issues that are at the forefront of the struggle for Indigenous Rights.

This included the next steps for the Public Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the drinking water crisis in First Nation communities and MP Romeo Saganash’s private members' bill that calls on the federal government to harmonize Canada’s laws with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

We were slightly amused in recent weeks to see Premier Bob McLeod issue a 'red alert' to our federal government. I certainly do feel there is a lot to be 'alerted' about as it comes to the lack of commitment by the feds to Northern living and how services are delivered to our citizens.
