As a member in good standing, you can elect your union officers, run for positions in the union and have a bigger role in the labour movement.

From our children’s schools and health care for our loved ones, to clean drinking water and infrastructure that connects our communities, the work done by all PSAC members is essential for our families today – and for the next generation tomorrow. We will work to protect strong public services and support a strong future for all Northern communities.

  Do you have a purse, in good condition, that you no longer use? PSAC North NWT Women’s Committee is collecting purses that will be filled with toiletries and donated to all women’s shelters in the NWT on March 8 for International Women’s Day.   You can drop purses off at the PSAC North office (4910-53rd Street - Suite # 201), Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The 29th Constitutional Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will be held from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The PSAC will be fully funding up to fourteen delegates to represent PSAC’s five equity groups: women, Indigenous peoples, racially visible peoples, persons with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ2+ communities. In addition to equity groups, the PSAC will fully fund up to seven young worker delegates.

In a nutshell, 'period poverty' refers to having a lack of access to sanitary products due to financial constraints. It has been called a great barrier to equality and low income, homeless and marginalized women bear the brunt of it.

Delegates to the 2020 PSAC North Regional Convention, being held in Whitehorse, Yukon, June 5-7,2020, will be electing the PSAC North Regional Executive Vice-President (REVP) and their Alternate REVP. Any PSAC member in good standing in the PSAC North Region is entitled to run for these two positions. The nominator and the seconder must be delegates to the PSAC North Regional Convention. A delegation of 50 members from across the North region (Yukon, NWT and Nunavut) attended the National and Regional Health and Safety Conferences in Montreal.

On December 6, communities across Canada held vigils and events. It has been 30 years since the tragic mass shooting at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal (December 6, 1989) that saw the promising lives of 14 young women cut violently short. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Bargaining Update City Refuses to Address Members’ Concerns   The UNW/PSAC bargaining team is ready to go back to the table any time the City of Yellowknife is willing to negotiate seriously. By presenting a final offer before negotiations were scheduled to end, the Employer ignored many issues. WORK-LIFE BALANCE There are more than 10 demands related to work-life balance that the City of Yellowknife has ignored in their final offer. Some of them are: - Better vacation accrual
